Short hike on a busy Sunday afternoon.
Forced to take a weekend off due to exceptional sales, we headed out to the coast to cool off.
We weren’t sure how much time (or energy) we had and decided to head towards Neahkahnie Mountain. A quick decision to make a side trip down to Short Sand beach sent us on the trail to “Elk Flats” which sits on a bench above Devils Cauldron and Pirate Cove. We reached the viewpoint for the cauldron, checked the clock, turned back, got rained on a little and had a great time exploring some of the user trails on the trip back.
We don’t usually hike on weekends, and while the parking lots were full, we didn’t see a single person on the trail to Elk Flats. There were plenty of people on the beach.
