It’s all fun and games until someone walks out into a field of poison oak
We hiked to the Herman Creek Pinnacles from the the Herman Creek Trailhead a bit ago and then I discovered that most people hike there on the PCT from Cascade Locks.
Starting at Cascade Locks you pass a nice waterfall, but coming from Herman Creek Trailhead, there’s more moss, it’s a little more peaceful, and it’s a little more scenic. They are basically a very similar experience though.
We took a little off-trail detour and discovered ourselves in the middle of a field of poison oak. We had already walked through a bunch so we just walked out carefully and did our best to not spread it from our legs/pants.
“They” say that with your first exposure you may not react and that subsequent exposures cause stronger reactions. While neither of us are sure we’ve been exposed in the past, it’s highly unlikely that we haven’t. We both suspect that we may be immune.
