HIKES AND BIKES AND BIOLOGY SOMETIMES

Herman Creek Pinnacles

Better than just Herman Creek

At least that’s how it felt this time.

The last time we started at this trailhead, we didn’t enjoy the hike that much. It was chilly and windy and it was kind of a grind up to the trail. On this Pinnacles hike, you turn off before the road section, so you get to avoid that whole grind thing.  This was more scenic than the short portion of the Herman Creek Trail that we’ve done before.

There’s a little bit of traffic noise, but it’s not intrusive. There are cliffs, talus slopes, mossy ravines, creeks, waterfalls, etc. – your typical Columbia Gorge hike but with less people. Our turn around point was at the creek just past the Pinnacles.

The Pinnacles are a couple of basalt spires, which are quite interesting. There are places to scramble around them and someone more bold than I could possibly scramble to the top of one of these chossy spires.
